PCOS, also known as polycystic ovarian syndrome, is a common health issue caused by an imbalance of reproductive hormones. The ovaries are affected by the hormonal imbalance. The ovaries are responsible for producing the egg that is released each month as part of a normal menstrual cycle. With PCOS, the egg may not develop properly or may not be released properly during ovulation.
PCOS is associated with a number of other health issues, including type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, depression and anxiety, and endometrial cancer.
